Regulating Flagellar Assembly and Disassembly

In collaborative studies with Junmin Pan, Ph.D., of Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, we are studying the roles of an aurora-like protein kinase, intraflagellar transport, and a depolymerizing kinesin in flagellar assembly, disassembly, and length control. We find that the extent of phosphorylation on the activation loop of the aurora-like protein kinase CALK is a molecular marker of flagellar length.
