POSTDOC
AVAILABLE IN EVOLUTIONARY DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY
An NIH-funded
postdoctoral position is available starting as early as Fall, 2007 in
the area of evolutionary developmental biology (EDB). The Haag
Lab, in the Department of Biology at the University of Maryland,
College Park, is seeking a Ph.D with molecular biology (and preferably C. elegans) experience and a strong
interest in evolutionary questions. The overall goal of the project is
to discover molecular mechanisms underlying the convergent evolution of
self-fertility in C. briggsae
and C. elegans.
Specifically, the researcher will lead a project examining the
evolution of germ line RNA-binding proteins and translational controls,
primarily using C. briggsae
(see Hill et al., 2006, Dev. Cell
10: 531). Methods employed will include reverse genetics,
phenotypic analyses, and potentially biochemistry.
The University of
Maryland, College Park is the main campus of the University of Maryland
System. Located inside the Capital Beltway and only three miles
from Washington, DC, UMCP lies in a cosmopolitan, prosperous
metropolis. In addition to an excellent EDB group at UMCP, the
campus’ proximity to the NIH, Smithsonian Institution, Johns Hopkins
University, and other federal research institutions provides easy
interaction with a wider community of C. elegans researchers,
developmental biologists, paleontologists, genomicists, and
nematologists. If interested, please contact:
