Lab Assignments and Grading

The laboratory portion accounts for 250 points (out of a course total of 600). Your lab grade is based on the following work:

  • Quizzes/Practicals (100 pts.): . You take a short quiz (worth 10 pts) at the beginning of nine of the lab exercises, and a 20 pt. practical at the end of the animal diversity lab. The ten point quizzes will have 8 pts. based on the previous week's lab, and two pts. based on reading for the current lab. The lowest 10 pt. quiz will be dropped.
  • Study Questions (50 pts.): On most Mondays, you will receive study questions in lecture. You are to turn these questions in at the beginning of lecture during the following Monday. You will receive five points if your answers are substantially accurate and thoughtful; three points if their answers are fairly accurate; and one point if their answers are incomplete and/or wrong. A score of 0 is reserved for those students who turn nothing in. A score of five does not mean your answer is perfect (e.g. for exam purposes) - a high score merely reflects your TA's appreciation of the your effort, logical and clear expression, and understanding of the concepts.
  • Lab report and associated assignments (80 pts.): You will write one report (worth 50 pts.) on the plant competition laboratory. In addition, there will be a total of 30 pts. assigned to exercises related to the lab report. Unless there is a legitimate documented reason for late work (e.g. illness, with a note from the health center), points will be deducted from late lab reports. 10% will be deducted per day for late lab reports. NO LAB REPORTS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 5:00 PM ON THE 5TH DAY AFTER THEY WERE DUE!!
  • Problem sets (20 pts.): There will be two problems sets, worth 10 pts. each.
