ELMS (Powered by Blackboard) is the online environment that supports teaching and learning at the University of Maryland. As an acronym it stands for both the Enterprise Learning Management System that provides the architecture that houses course materials, as well as an expression of the mission of the environment: Enhancing Learning for Maryland Students. Why ELMS?	Course materials can be available to your students 24X7. Auto-grade quizzes and assessments can save instructor or TA's time Instructors can teach courses distance with video and audio capabilities, and the entire course can be archived. Students can submit assignments through blackboard before deadline Instructor can track how students are understanding the content. Students are engaged to participant online discussion Students are engaged to form a team and collaborate with team members to accomplish a group project the built-in wiki and blog learning objects Broadcast a note to students reminding them of upcoming deadline Clicker technology is integrated into blackboard. Store, share, reuse, and maintain course contents using the content collection.

Getting Started	Request a course (If you have problems to request a course, please send your directory ID and course name to julielkz@umd.edu) Once your course requested has been approved, Log into your course with your directory ID and password.
