ABOUT THE TALK
Whiskey is interesting. It can serve as a lens through which science, engineering and history can be examined. Whiskey’s creation relies on input from multiple disciplines—from agriculture and forestry to chemical engineering and biochemistry. Whether the discussion centers on bourbon or Scotch, a single malt or Canadian blend, the influences of the great ideas and great thinkers of science and engineering shine through. Join us for a discussion of one of the world’s treasured spirits with our speaker, whose 2016 book, Shots of Knowledge: The Science of Whiskey, has garnered praise and awards.

This event is a partnership between the UMD College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences and The Clarice and MilkBoy ArtHouse, a local crossroads for dynamic entertainment, social gathering and creative dining in downtown College Park, Maryland. This event is also sponsored by the UMD Science Alumni Network and the University of Maryland and FDA Chapters of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society.
