Message from the Chair
As the Fall 2023 semester ends, we are all trying to adjust to the impact of recent events on the university and our profession. This has been a year like no other.
This year brought many changes as we welcomed several new professors: Dori Bejleri (algebraic geometry), Henri Berestycki (partial differential equations), Artem Chernikov (Brin Chair, logic) and Lizhen Lin (our new Statistics Director). We also welcomed lecturers Sean Gruber and Anna Szczekutowicz and graduate program manager Trystan Denhard. Hearty congratulations to Chris Laskowski, who is now a Distinguished Scholar-Teacher. Another change we experienced was the retirement of two dear colleagues: Benjamin Kedem and Denny Gulick. We plan to celebrate their retirements in the spring.
The Brin Mathematics Research Center entered its second year on full steam ahead. After two very successful summer schools, we hosted four workshops and two distinguished lectures. The spring semester will continue with seven workshops, three distinguished lectures and many visitors. The Brin MRC has significantly increased the visibility of our department in the mathematical community, and we are all very energized and happy about it.
I would like to wish our entire Math family Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year. Congratulations to all our winter graduates and welcome 2024!
~Doron |
