Research Interests: Plant Cell Biology
During the last several years, my research program has been focused on gamete development in the male gametophytes of the fern, Marsilea vestita. Populations of gametophytes develop synchronously after dry microspores are placed into water. We have been interested in the mechanisms that control development, including the formation of basal bodies in cells that lack preexisting centrioles. We have also begun to look at mechanisms that control cell fate determination, where a single cell in the spore gives rise to two distinct cell types.
