Paynter Lab Personnel: Students

Hillary

Hillary Lane

Hillary has been a PhD student in the MEES program studying the response of juvenile blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) to climate change since 2012. Hillary is based out of the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in Solomons, Maryland where she is co-advised by Dr. Tom Miller. Hillary's work focuses on understanding how juvenile crab growth, shell properties, and energetics may change under projected future climate scenarios. Hillary's work as a Maryland Sea Grant Coastal Resilience and Sustainability Fellow will explore the population level impacts that climate change may have on blue crab in the Chesapeake Bay using individual-based modeling techniques. When she isn't getting crabby, Hillary enjoys spending time with her husband and their dog, Spaghetti.

Anna

Anna Manyak Davis

Anna is a PhD student in the MEES program studying the ecology of oysters. Prior to joining the Paynter lab, Anna worked in the science policy realm, including two years spent with the National Science Foundation's Chemical Oceanography Program and a year spent as a Knauss Marine Policy Fellow with NOAA's Marine Debris Program. She received her bachelors in biology from George Washington University and her masters in marine biology from College of Charleston, where her research focused on the evolutionary ecology of a marine isopod. When not playing with oysters, Anna enjoys traveling, gardening, and spending time outside with her husband and two dogs.
