Enrichment Culture of
Rhizobium melilotifrom
Trifolium repens
Summary
The hypothesis that Rhizobium can be isolated
from Trifolium repens because it is the only organism present in the
root nodules of that specific legume, was proven correct.
This enrichment culture is an example of the successful isolation of a pure
culture of the Rhizobium meliloti bacterium from Trifolium repens
. It was obtained from the root nodules of the white clover plant using the
enrichment protocol and YMA media, which selected for Rhizobium. The
isolation of Rhizobium is important because its nitrogen fixation
ability can be applied to soil treatments in agriculture.
