Lab Assignments and Grading
The laboratory portion accounts for 400 points (out of a course total of 800). Your lab grade is based on the following work:

  • Quizzes (150 pts.): . You take a short quiz (worth 15 pts) at the beginning of ten of the lab periods. The twenty point quizzes will have 10 pts. based on the previous week's lab, and five pts. based on the current lab.
  • Lab Practicals (200 pts.): You will take two lab practicals worth 100 pts. each. Lab practicals will require you to identify and indicate the phylogenetic position of organisms, and identify and describe the function of structures, seen in lab.
  • Museum Trip (50 pts.): An assignment based on a trip to the National Museum of Natural History will be described to you in lab

Missed Labs and/or lab work
You will be allowed to make up labs and lab practicals only if you contact Mike Goodison within 48 hours of the missed work, and you have an unforseeable, documented reason for your absence. Make up work will be given for athletics only when there is a direct game conflict (prior notification and note from coach required). Please understand that setting up make-up labs and practicals requires a great deal of extra work from the teaching staff, and should be avoided whenever possible.
