Grasslands Plantation stretches across 5,400 acres of fertile farmland, marsh, meadows, and woodland in both Queen Anne's and Kent Counties, of Maryland's Eastern Shore. It encompasses a 90 acre sanctuary lake, multiple small ponds and streams, and three-and-a-half miles of Chester River shore frontage.
The land is protected by a perpetual conservation easement restriction. A successful agricultural farm uses 3000 acres of its land. The owner is committed to best management practices for environmental sensitivity.Questions related to these issues are the focus of much of the work on Grasslands.
The Plantation and Chino Farms at Grasslands are a locus for investigative activities of the Audubon Society, the University of Maryland, the Maryland State Department of Natural Resources, The Academy of Natural Sciences, and the Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences. These partnerships focus on ecological and biological field research to assess the environmental impact of agricultural practices and grassland and wetland restoration.
A large bird banding project at Grasslands has banded over 135 species of local and neotropical migrants over the last 6 years. Eagles, Bobwhite Quail, Grasshopper Sparrows and many other sought after species, are indigenous and bountiful on the property. Reliable ornithologist sighting or banding has recorded 238 species on the property on one or more occasions.
Grasslands Plantation hosts a small equestrian club and a club for twenty members who enjoy wild game bird shooting. Five to ten of these members will have the opportunity to acquire a 5-10 acre home site.
 Located in Maryland's Eastern Shore in the heart of the Mid-Atlantic region, Grasslands Plantation is ideally located between the major urban areas of Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York City.
