THE GRASSLANDS CLUB

THE GRASSLANDS CLUB has been organized to foster a camaraderie for a small group of people who enjoy the natural resources of a part of the coastal plains on Maryland's Eastern Shore. These individuals would be interested in the wildlife conservation, ecology and the outdoor sport opportunities that abound in this area. Active sports such as hunting.riding, fishing, and small boat exploring will compliment the more passive activities such as bird watching, participation in the investigation activities of the University of Maryland, the Manomet Center for conservation Sciences and Washington College. This would include participation in the bird banding project under the auspices of the US Fish and Wildlife Service, that has become one of the major Eastern United States banding sites. Club membership entitles rights to 2,000 acres of common land, use of trails, nature walks, lake front and river front, shooting, hunting, fishing, boating, recreational amenities, and use of the remaining 3,400 farming acres when they are not in production.

The Grasslands Clubs will be limited to 50 active members. There will be 3 types of membership. Each member will have privileges related to his or her membership type. Each member of the recreational club will own shares of Grasslands Plantation stock and will have the right to purchase a home site. Club membership entitles rights to 2,000 acres of common land, use of trails, nature walks, lake front and river front, shooting, hunting, fishing, boating, recreational amenities, and use of the remaining 3,400 farming acres when they are not in production.

RECREATIONAL AMENITIES: Carriage and riding trails interlace the forest and open space, offering a prime equestrian landscape. Small boat sailing and fishing are available on the Chester River and large boat activity is available 12 miles away on the Chesapeake Bay, one of the most picturesque gateways to the Atlantic. Meticulous fostering of wildlife and game population at Grasslands yields an exceptional hunting environment with stables and sporting kennels on the property. Nature trails extend through miles of diverse bird watching habitat. Many species of neo-tropical birds migrate through the woods including hawks, eagles, kites, sandpipers, plover, warblers, and other rare groups.
(One hundred and twenty six of the smaller species have been banded on the property.) Tens of thousands of geese and waterfowl flock on the ponds and river during the fall and winter. An Eastern Blue Bird study is ongoing.
